Dr. Rathinam Panneer Selvam, University Professor & James T. Womble Professor of Computational Mechanics and Nanotechnology Modeling, Department of Civil Engineering, The University of Arkansas
Dr. Selvam has been a member of the University’s faculty for over twenty years. His work in civil engineering has covered the spectrum from nanoparticles to large weather patterns to better understanding of how energy can be converted and stored more efficiently. His interests have seen him named the UAs Outstanding Researcher five times in his career as well the Arkansas Academy of Science Award for leadership in 2016. He has also been recognized for his work in grooming the next generation of civil engineers by the College of Engineering.
Selvam graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Madras, Government College of Engineering in Salem, India and his Master’s of Engineering at the University of Madras, Government College of Engineering in Guindy, Madras, India. He went on to receive his MSCE at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and his Ph.D. at Texas Tech University. He joined the faculty at the University of Arkansas and has grown from an Adjunct Faculty member to the Director of Thermal Energy Conversion and Storage Laboratory and the Director of Computational Mechanics Lab to the Womble Chair and finally a University Professor.
He is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and has served on the Arkansas Governor’s Earthquake Advisory Committee. He sits on the editorial board for three scientific journals.
