Dr. Bob Crisp – Bob started in 1963 with the University’s Computing Center as a TA, programming an IBM 650. Along with some other TA’s, he taught the first general introductory computing course offered at the University: INEG 1851.
After receiving his MS degree, he worked for IBM in Little Rock and in Mobile, AL, primarily with the International Paper account.
He left IBM to enroll in the doctoral program at the University of Texas and completed the doctoral program in 18 months.
He returned to his alma mater, the University of Arkansas, in 1967 in the Industrial Engineering Department. He along with others in the Industrial Engineering Department initiated the BS in Computer Science in the College of Engineering.
Dr. Crisp was one of five people who were founding members of the Department of Computer Science Engineering Department which with name changes and mergers is now the CSCE Department.
He also started the University of Arkansas Computer Store, wrote the proposal and was PI of the grant that started the GENESIS technology computers at the University, and was part of the team that obtained the NCR TeraData system and the IBM mainframe computers for the University. He has been a computer consultant to: Systematics, Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, Colt Industries, Trane Air-Conditioning, Sperry-Vickers, Inland Energy, and others.
