George Knight was born in Hot Springs and grew up in Nashville and Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended the University of Arkansas where he was a Sigma Nu and received a degree in Civil Engineering. He entered the Army where he was a pilot, leaving the service as a Captain. After leaving the service, he worked for a short time with a civil engineering consulting firm before joining IBM in the Little Rock office. After spending two years in Little Rock, he moved to Fayetteville in 1969, where he was a marketing representative selling to companies with large systems. In 1970, with much technical help, he installed the first computer in Wal-Mart Stores, which had 14 stores at the time. Over the years he continued to work with many of the Northwest Arkansas companies until Wal-Mart became so large that it was his lone account. During that 17 year period he sold to Wal-Mart and managed a team that handled the Wal-Mart account in all areas, including such applications as store communications, point of sale, distribution systems, etc. He left Northwest Arkansas in 1987 and was an IBM Manager in St. Louis and Little Rock, before retiring from IBM in 1993. After retiring, George worked as a consultant with Acxiom, IBM, and other companies for many years.

George has been active in several capacities working with the University of Arkansas. He has served on several advisory boards in Engineering and Walton College of Business. He has worked on football and basketball statistics crews for over 35 years and has had the opportunity to watch many great eras in University of Arkansas athletics. George and his wife, Vicki, have a daughter and a son, both of whom graduated from the University of Arkansas and three grandchildren.
